Questions related to the FL2MP3 flac to mp3 transcoder frontend. Replaced by LL2MP3.

FL2MP3: Additonal options

Postby zagortenej » 02 Oct 2006, 00:15

Just downloaded the transcoder - just what I was looking for. Works great!

I have two suggestions for additional options:

1. adding 128 kbps preset under Lame Encoding Options (I personally use alt-standard preset, but in some cases having the lowwer constant bitrate encoding options might come in handy)

2. enabling dragging and dropping files into frontend while transcoding is already in process. (I'm not sure if this would be possible, but it would be handy for encoding selected tracks from difrerent album folders, so that there is no waiting for adding another flac file until the curent is finished transcoding. That way you can initially add one or two files, have FL2MP3 transcode them and, while transcoding is in process, browse through flac collection and keep adding files into the forntend.)

Thanks. Keep up the good work!

Hello Z,

Adding more presets is not a problem. I just restricted myself to the ones most used in high quality mp3 encoding. 128 kbps falls short a little :) . Even 192 is generally seen as giving too much high frequency losses.

Regarding your second suggestion: I'll have to see what the consequences are with respect to changing the code. It just might be simple to implement, but I have not yet looked into the matter.

Thanks for your suggestions!

Hello Z,

I've been looking into the matter, and I have a preliminary version of which I am not yet completely sure it behaves correctly. Soon I will put it up as version 1.6.10.5 together with the 0.6.10.4 version, but you'll have to see it as a beta.

Thanks Alex. I just downloaded the latest version and gave it a try. So far it works great. I like the fact that you added a cue window so that the list of files to be encoded can be seen easily. Was it supposed to overlap with the bigger window underneath it, or is my pc not displaying the transcoder correctly?

In fact this is a debug version that slipped through

Actually I wanted it to look just like the other versions, without any additional windows. But I will consider having a cue list attached. What you see now is not meant to be final - it is indeed overlapping the other Edit window. These have no function for the user.

I will modify it and then you perhaps could tell me if you like it.

New version has been put up - use the context menu to make the cue list visible.

Further details in the new FL2MP3-beta forum.
