Converting ape files into mp3 files is easy
with this frontend. Like FL2MP3, it features a 'drag-and-drop' feature. It also takes the
tags from the ape file and transfers them to mp3. Have a look at the
screen shot.
Note that the frontend makes use of two so-called codec
files: lame.exe and
mac.exe.
Download the SetupAPE2MP3.zip, unzip in a
directory and run SetupAPE2MP3.exe to install - to the proposed directory - APE2MP3.exe as well as
MACv12lib.dll, responsible for the retrieval of the tags. This dll file is automatically registered
during the installation procedure. A few files, necessary or useful, are also installed during this procedure.
Finally, copy to the same directory the Lame.exe and Mac.exe files.
For those interested, the DLL can be used with other windows applications
that support COM objects, e.g. Excel or Word. Read the readme file installed to the same folder
together with the converter.
Help in the context menu explains briefly how to use it. In
this menu you can also select the MP3 destination directory and 1 of 4 preset
Lame encoding options. For more details: look at the readme file included.
I cannot guarantee that the frontend handles all types of ape
files without problems - just try and see.
